The Monarchy of Guyana (the Guyanese monarchy) was the system of government in which a hereditary monarch was the sovereign of Guyana from 1966 to 1970. Guyana shared the Sovereign with the other Commonwealth realms. The monarch's constitutional roles were mostly delegated to the Governor-General of Guyana. The royal succession was governed by the English Act of Settlement of 1701.

The monarchy was abolished in 1970, when Guyana became a republic within the Commonwealth.

History

The Monarchy of Guyana was created by the Guyana Independence Act 1966 which transformed the British Crown Colony of British Guiana into the independent sovereign constitutional monarchy of Guyana. Guyana adopted a new constitution in 1970 which abolished the monarchy.
